Since the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Persons with Disability in 2006, global recognition has been drawn for the need to integrate disability issues in development planning processes. According to the UNDP, about 10 percent of the global population constitutes Persons with Disability. In Ghana, with the 2010 population census estimates of about 24 million people, 2.4 million people are supposed to be disabled. Despite this significant proportion, persons with disability are among the underrepresented in our development efforts. For instance, the 2007 Ghana Human Development report showed that, the unemployment rate of persons with disability stands at 31% higher than the 19.8% for persons without disability.
